As part of the ongoing World Green Building Council 2015 this week, the premier green building conference in the Philippines will take place on Friday, 25 September, at the SMX International Convention Centre in Pasay City. With the international theme “Powering Positive Change”, the forum will initiate dialogue within the public and private sectors in regard to their current green building initiatives.
The annual Building Green 2015 event is organised by the Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC), whose chairman Ramon Fernando D. Rufino, also executive vice-president of The Net Group, was recently honoured as the Real Estate Personality of the Year at the third Philippines Property Awards for his contributions to the advancement of green building and sustainability in the country.
PHILGBC issues the Philippines’ BERDE rating tool.
On the significance of getting green certification, Rufino commented: “The awareness and desire for sustainability is already strong, but we really need to improve on the level of commitment and action. There are so many areas to work on but our top priority is for more and more companies and projects to secure green building certification.
“It’s easy to market and advertise real estate projects as “green” but only certification provides the users, the public, and the government with the assurance that a project is truly green and sustainable – performing above and beyond minimum standards for green building design, construction, performance, and operation.”
Building Green 2015 is open to PHILGBC members, non-members, college students, senior citizens and government staff. Entrance fees vary, starting from PHP3,000 (USD64) per head. Registration is required.
