Shortlist for the inaugural China Property Awards revealed

CPATROPHYAfter a rigorous and extensive deliberation period spanning more than six months, the shortlist for the first-ever China Property Awards was announced today.

A joint venture between Ensign Media, publisher of Asia’s industry-leading Property Report magazine, and Hong Kong-based Perspective Magazine, the inaugural China Property Awards will honour the best in the Chinese real estate sector, covering Asia’s biggest property markets: Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.

“After almost a decade of running some of the region’s most successful awards events, we believe that now is the time to shine the spotlight on China’s burgeoning luxury property market and bring it to the world stage,” said Terry Blackburn, CEO of Ensign Media, organisers of the prestigious Asia Property Awards series. “This will be our first event outside of Southeast Asia and what better place to expand than China?”

A total of 18 awards will be handed out over a four-course, modern black-tie Gala Dinner, to be followed by the Awards Presentation Ceremony on Thursday, 20 November, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, attended by the country’s top executives and industry professionals.

Three outstanding companies—Couture Homes Limited, Henderson Land and Vanke—will be competing for the biggest accolade of the year, the Best Developer award. The aforementioned firms are also up for multiple citations in the Best Residential Development and Best Commercial Development awards.

Other honours to be given out include the Best Mixed-Use Development and Best Green Development awards, as well as the Special Recognition for CSR to The Link for its exemplary innovations in corporate social responsibility.

Demonstrating the massive scope of the Chinese property market, the Awards categories are also divided into sub-categories, featuring North China, East & Central China, South China, and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau. Outright winners have already been selected by the judges in some of these categories and these will go on to compete in the principal China-wide categories.

This year’s highly respected and independent panel of judges will be led by chairman Ivan Ko, who also chairs the China Real Estate Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong Chapter, a supporting association for the Awards.

“I believe some Chinese developers have done some great projects in the past decade or so. Some of these projects are unknown to the industry outside of China. The China real estate industry is increasing its weight but still have to be assessed by some international standards and to be recognised,” Ko said.

“The Asia Property Awards are such an important and established industry recognition that it will help Chinese real estate to advance and go outside of China and be part of Asia or even internationally.”

Other members of the esteemed panel are: Shaman Chellaram
, Director, Evantis Group Ltd; Richard Hawkins, Partner, Foster & Partners; Steve Leung, Founder and Managing Director, Steve Leung Designers Ltd; Nevius Glussi, Corporate Director of Development, Asia Pacific, Rosewood Hotel Group; Trevor Vivian, Global Director, Benoy; Nigel Smith, Managing Director, Landlord Office Agency, CBRE; Simon Smith, Senior Director, Research & Consultancy, Savills Hong Kong; and Gustav Szabo, Senior Designer, Yoo Asia Ltd.
